Welcome!
Julie Edwards Jones is a mental health advocate and the author
of her memoir, Beyond the Bluebird's Shadow.
From Shadows to Light: The Story Behind the Story
I began writing this memoir to give voice to those who silently carry the weight of mental illness and childhood trauma. Growing up in dysfunction, I witnessed the pain that secrecy inflicts—especially on my mother, who battled deeply with her mental health.
Telling this story hasn’t been easy. It forced my siblings and me to confront painful truths, but through that process came clarity. I wrote out of love, to honor my mother and shine light on what she was never able to say out loud. She searched for happiness in each bluebird she saw, symbols of hope always just out of reach.
Beyond the Bluebird’s Shadow is about her journey and mine—through sorrow, silence, and toward healing. For years, I held this story in shame. But now I let it go, believing that raw honesty can spark change.
I know I’m not alone. Many carry similar stories. By speaking the truth, we loosen the grip of secrecy. My hope is that this story lights the way for others and reminds us all: even in brokenness, there is beauty—and hope. This book is part of my commitment to breaking the silence, ending stigma, and standing with those who need to know they’re not alone.
